Meeniyan is located about 16 kilometres south-east of Leongatha on the South Gippsland Highway.
For those who don’t know, much of the ABC series “Bed of Roses” starring Kerry Armstrong, Julia Blake and Jay Laga’aia is filmed on location in Meeniyan. The Meeniyan Post Office, Hotel, and other businesses have been transformed with signage to become Rainbow’s End businesses!
A picturesque country village in its own right, Meeniyan is also known as "the Turning Point", as those travelling on to Wilsons Promontory National Park have the choice of two routes to the Prom from here. From Meeniyan, visitors can either continue along the Highway to Foster before bearing south to the Prom, or otherwise they can turn south on to the Meeniyan - Promontory Road just east of the town and then reach the Park via Buffalo and Fish Creek.
Meeniyan is easy commuting distance to nearby larger townships of Inverloch, Foster, Leongatha, Korumburra and Wonthaggi, It is renowned locally for its music and arts culture, as well as a being focal point for surrounding farming districts such as Dumbalk, Dollar, Mardan and Fish Creek.
Sewerage is being introduced to Meeniyan in 2009, and it is thought that this will greatly enhance the attraction of new people and development to the town. This means that investment into Meeniyan now is ideal. The countryside immediately surrounding the township is green and rolling, with a mixture of traditional dairy and beef farms, as well as a growing group of grapes, olives, alpacas and other niche farming industries.
With its own primary school, and buses to the major schools in Leongatha, Meeniyan is a great place to begin your tree change experience!
